Abstract

Repetition causes important and extended semantic effects, referring both phonetics and writing. The question of iconicity, from Peirce’s conception, stands out among these semantic effects; this means that repetition can function as an iconic sign which expects a deep interpretation, not only of the repeated elements, but also of the context in which it appears. The most outstanding effects of repetition are intensity, length and metaphorical function, and they all possess different iconic characteristics. Deleuze’s Theory of repetition can be considered the most interesting one regarding iconic repetition.
