Abstract

On burlesque comedies during Spanish Golden Age, rupture, inversion and transgression games create a parodic universe, where the oficial world representatives (kings, emperors, marquises, etcetera) are derided and degraded through several means. One of such means is verbal violence. The aim of this work is to review how insults, nicknames and other verbal games allow us to demystify and laugh at the otherwise untouchable authority figures.
