Abstract

In this article I study the children’s function in Poeta en Nueva York, matter that appears constantly in his work, but it hasn’t had studies that analyze the symbology. The children are victims and tyrants of a decadent society and, for that, they have a central part in the poems: they’re the metaphor that describes the vices of the urban world. Those kids suffer, agonize and die; their behavior is despicable but, at the same time, reflects Lorca’s catharsis during his visit to the big city.
