Abstract

In this article I propose a reading of El camino rojo a Sabaiba, by Óscar Liera, in light of the aesthetics of the grotesque; that is to say, observing how the author chooses to configure his dramatic text by incorporating images typical of an ancient, ambivalent popular culture that does not think of time in linear terms, that does not recognize borders between life and death, and that advocates a plethoric world, overflowing with sexuality, tragic and comic at the same time. Artistic strategy that, although it distances itself from realism, allows its author to speak of a lacerating social reality, which we can perfectly identify in our latitudes.
