Abstract

This article discusses how the short stories of the Golden Age are incorporated in the brief comic plays of the same period. It describes how these short stories either appear as inserted tales in some of those plays or are themselves independently adapted for stage. It also proposes that the short stories inserted as tales to be narrated serve to intensify the comic quality of the broader plays, whereas when the stories are given dramatic representation, they assimilate completely the brief comic play mechanisms.
