Abstract

This essay is based on a general characterization of the narrative of Enrique Serna, focuseing on Fruta verde, his autobiographical novel. The reflection emphasizes the resource to the reconstruction of historical scenarios as well as the intertextual wealth. The contrast between personal values and repressive morals reveals the core theme. A significant space to the description of the behavior, strategies and skills of the narrator is given in these lines by using resources such as irony and metaphors in order to highlight relationships between text, discourse and society. The controversy about the diversity lies in the fact that being man or woman —beyond a biological reason—, is a social construct imposed by Catholic morals and religion. This work emphasizes the pretension of the narrator who exposes the double moral of its characters as well as to demonstrate the desire of and the existence of a participatory and open sexuality.
